Rhythm Without Limits: Music Unites Abilities – My Guest, Truman Wallace, is the Empowerment Coach and Founder at Truman Center of Hope.
“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” ~ J. Dean
My guest this week used his unfortunate accident at the young age of two to be his motivation in life.  Truman was born to a large family and his first two years was like most two year old’s, playing with siblings and testing his parents patience as he explored his world.  It was when young Truman was hit by a car that his entire life changed in an instance.
Truman shares how he went into full arrest a few times before the doctors could stabilize him.  After he was finally able to leave the hospital he continued battling a badly broken right arm.  As time passed Truman’s arm became twisted and eventually left him with limited use of his right arm.  This however did not stop him, it just forced him to do things differently than others to achieve the same thing.
By the time he was 13 he was leading his youth group at church and he had developed a profound love for music with the drums being his favorite.  Truman had been living his life to its fullest when he suddenly felt a calling to help others with disabilities.  This is why he started his nonprofit called “The Truman Center of Hope”.  Truman is determined to help others realize their true worth and he hopes to make his nonprofit his legacy that will go on for many years after he is gone.  If you would like to learn more about his organization or how you could help, you can go to www.tru/mancenterofhope.com or Truman @‌truman center of hope.

On this episode of Cannonballing Life, Coach and Derrick dive into a mix of celebrations, debates, and friendly humiliation. Derrick kicks things off with an update on his anniversary and the busy world of band rehearsals and upcoming music projects. From there, the guys launch into a spirited debate over one of the most controversial holiday topics of all time: How long should a Christmas tree actually stay up in the living room?
To wrap things up, Coach humbly recounts his latest marathon experience—one where he didn’t just finish… he finished dead last. The guys laugh their way through it all with the usual humor, honesty, and chaos listeners love.

Leading by Love: A Grandma, A CEO, A Heart Full of Purpose. – My Guest, Southaven Chamber of Commerce President, Debbie King.
“Alone we strong, together we are unbreakable .”
My guest this week shows us what being a leader is all about.  I was introduced to Mrs. King at a leadership conference and soon I learned that she was not only a community leader, but she was someone that knew how to do the right thing, even when the right thing was the hardest thing to do.
Mrs. Debbie King grew up in a very diverse family that taught her how to embrace the moment and not fear change.  She shares how her time spent at the casino’s actually molded her “can do” attitude and gave her a sense of loving the challenge.  She explains how every time a new opportunity presented itself she was quick to jump at it.  If nothing else, she wanted to be a perpetual learner.
After nearly 20 years in the casino business, Mrs. King was given an opportunity to go to work for the very young city of Southaven, MS.  Working at the Chamber of Commerce meant that she we would have to once again push herself out of her comfort zone and become very familiar with how to communicate with a diverse group of business leaders.
In 2021 Mrs. King was rewarded for all of her strong efforts and she was assigned as the President and CEO of the Southaven Chamber of Commerce.  This new role and challenge in her life inspired her to press forward and build an amazing team of people around her by which, she gives all the credit to for making her look good.  These roles and life progression would seem to be impressive enough, but it is in our last part of the conversation that you see how big her heart truly is.  When she was faced with adopting her two grandkids she knew that the road ahead wouldn’t be easy, but there was no way that she was going to walk away from this unexpected change.  Mrs. King is the shining example of what a mentor, a city leader and a loving person should be, and I know that you will be moved by her story, just as I was.

Raising the Bar: How Army Recruiters Adapt to a Changing Nation – My Guest, Sergeant First Class Christopher Wright.
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.”
~ R. Reagan
Times change and so does the military.  As we go from one generation to the next, the needs and threats to America continue to evolve. So in order to keep up with the everchanging world that we live in, our military recruiters are tasked with finding the right people for the job.
My guest this week, Sergeant First Class – Christopher Wright, has been serving as an Army recruiter for 4 years and he has seen a lot of changes in the military over the past two decades.  Since all of America’s branches are volunteer, finding qualified individuals is not always so easy.  Sgt. Wright discusses how the military is not for everyone, but for those that do fit the calling, the military can be a very exciting and rewarding career.
Travel, career options, lifelong benefits, and unique experiences await those that join the services.  Sgt. Wright discusses the diversity of jobs that are available and how the needs are always changing, like how AI is impacting the tech world as an example.  If you or someone you know has ever been interested in joining the military or maybe they are just curious about the nuances between the guard versus the reserves then this is the episode for you.  It is always an honor to highlight our military and our veterans.

Beyond the Baby Blues: Uncovering the Truth About Postpartum Depression – My Guest, Bailee Harris.
“My scars are badges of courage – proof I fought for my baby and myself.”
My guest this week shares her difficult journey of battling through postpartum depression and how she found healing in small steps.  Today, we are breaking the silence on a topic that affects 1 in 7 new mothers yet remains hidden behind smiles and baby photos.
Mrs. Bailee Harris talks about how she had pre-planned her entire life, from when she would go to college, to when she would get married, to what age she would start her family.  For Bailee life was a series of boxes that she enjoyed checking and up to the birth of her daughter, her plans had all come together accordingly.
It was shortly after her daughter was born that both mom and baby started to have some health issues.  When Bailee’s baby became jaundiced and had to go to the doctor for some treatment and she had some health problems pop up, suddenly Bailee started doubting her ability to care for her daughter and quickly found herself falling into a state of depression.
Our conversation is open and honest and Bailee hopes that by sharing her story she will give another mother out there that might be struggling to wrap her head around why she feels sad or is even having suicidal thoughts, that she is not alone.  She hopes that her story will give someone else the strength and courage to ask for help and realize that asking for help is the strongest, bravest and most helpful thing you can do for yourself and for your baby.  If you or someone you know is suffering from postpartum depression you can call the Postpartum Depression (PPD) hotline at 844-987-9882.

Leading the Way: The Love for Community Drives Dr. Hall
My Guest, Southwest Tennessee Community College President, Dr. Tracy Hall.
“ Community is not just a place, it’s a purpose.” ~ Unknown
My guest this week is a true leader in every sense of the word.  Dr. Tracy Hall is the president of Southwest Tennessee Community College and her story that led her to Memphis was not one of an accident.
Dr. Hall shares how she grew up near St. Louis, Missouri, and she came from a large family that played a huge roll in her early foundation which instilled a love and compassion for everyone.  Dr. Hall explains that even though she considers herself to be an introvert she still won Homecoming Queen at her high school and was even voted most popular.  She attributes these accolades to how she always treated everyone the same and genuinely enjoyed learning about others interests.
Dr. Hall didn’t initially set out to be an educator, but when a friend suggested she should try teaching, it didn’t take long before she realized how impactful teaching can be.  Over the years Dr. Hall furthered her education and she eventually found her way to administrative roles.  Then when she had the opportunity to apply for a president’s position she had two possibilities.  She could have went to Chattanooga Community College or she could take the position at Southwest Tennessee Community College.
Dr. Hall considered both possibilities and she understood that Memphis is a tough city with a lot of crime and poverty.  These realities not only didn’t scare Dr. Hall away, they actually motivated her.  Where some would have ran from the obvious challenges, Dr. Hall embraced the moment looking at it as opportunity.  I know you will be inspired this week’s episode and just remember, “Southwest Tennessee Community College is your best choice.”

The Pen is Mightier: One Person’s Leap of Faith – My Guest, Dr. Carolyn Wiley.
“Stories are the lifeblood of humanity; writers are its vessels.”
~ N. Gaiman

My guest this week found herself taking the easy path early in her life.  Finding the thing we are really good at is not the same thing as pursuing the thing we are passionate about.  The problem with pursuing passions can be, we might find ourselves in uncomfortable places and the fear of failing at our passion can be overwhelming.
This is where you must take an absolute leap of faith and realize life is too short to play it safe.  Dr. Carolyn Wiley found herself building a strong foundation in mathematics, but eventually those years in teaching would pay off when she and some colleagues took on the challenge of writing and updating a Statistics book.  This book would eventually be adopted as part of the curriculum and distributed to hundreds of universities all over America.
That taste of success as a writer lit a fire and over the years Dr. Wiley began to imagine what could be if she went all in as a writer and a publisher.  After careful consideration and meaningful prayer she decided to quit her job as a teacher and start her own company, Rose and Pearl Publishing.  Tune in to hear about how chasing her dream led her to writing about the story of local firefighter hero (Pat Hardison) that nearly died in a house fire and later received the first ever successful full face transplant in the world.  Mr. Hardison was a guest on the Motivate with Coach Camp podcast and you can listen to his interview by clicking the link.
