“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” ~ Romans 8:18
There are approximately 5.5 million people in America that are paralyzed.  Every year there are millions that suffer some kind of traumatic injury and one of the most life altering injuries are those involving the spinal cord.  Even with amazing advances in medicine, the nervous system is one of the most intricate and complex systems in the human body.
On September 28, 2010, my guest, Mr. Joyner, suffered an accident that would change the trajectory of the rest of his life.  After graduating top of his class in his HVAC program, he had hopes of making a career for himself and his family.  Unfortunately, while helping a friend complete some electrical work he fell approximately 20 feet to the ground and crushed some vertebra leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.
Our conversation gives the listener some perspective on the many challenges paraplegics face in everyday society and gives some food for thought on how we can all do a little more to help those in a wheelchair.  Mr. Joyner’s story of perseverance and positive approach to life, will inspire you to find the silver lining when faced with great adversity.

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it’s dressed in overalls and looks like work.” ~ T. Edison
My guest this week knew that while growing up in a large family he could choose to be the victim or he could choose to be in charge.  Mr. Cole shares with my listeners how his embattled childhood gave him the tools needed to persevere and overcome great adversity.
Mr. Cole had an idea of what he wanted to do when he grew up but that direction changed when he was afforded some opportunities to work and make money to help support his family.  When he was given the chance to set up a stage for a music group he pulled together 30 friends and family and knocked it out.  That hard work stood out and it led to his next gig, which led to the next, and before he knew it he was getting big offers making big money.
It was his hard work and attention to detail that quickly grew his reputation.  His success is beyond anything he could have ever imagined, but you will quickly understand why he was able to grow his company and become one of the premier businesses in this profession.
Mr. Cole is extremely humble and he never forgot where he came from.  His willingness to help others and share his life, is truly inspiring.  You will easily see his genuine love for others and his story will help you believe anything can be possible if you are willing to work hard.

“If you want to see success, you have to do the work. Hard work is your best friend.”
According to the American Psychologist Association, in 2023, there has been a 45% increase in reported mental illness since 2019.  Naturally, this number does not reflect the millions of unreported mental health emergencies.
This week Ms. Rita and I discuss the importance of developing a healthy mind set and we review the many contributing factors that impact an individual’s mental state.  Ms. Rita shares how her own personal life struggles prepared her for a career helping others to overcome life’s many pitfalls.
The complexities of the human mind make it impossible to have a one size fits all approach.  The Region 4 Mental Health facility takes a one on one approach to learning and understanding each individual’s areas of concern and then personalized counseling helps to instill, in those individuals, the tools that will need to lead a happier and healthier life.
I encourage you to tune in to see what resources are available and how to access them.  I feel like we can all agree, life can very unpredictable and you never know when yourself or someone you love may find themselves in a difficult place.  Knowing how and where to access assistance can literally save a life. You can find assistance by calling: 1-888-287-4443.  There will be someone there to take your calls 24 hours a day – 7 days a week.

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
I feel like everyone is born with a gift or a talent.  What works for one person, obviously, may not work for another.  It is for that reason that we must be attentive to those that are called to serve.  This week’s guest is a true patriot and has a heart to make a difference
Mr. Eubanks shares with my listeners how growing up with a father involved in politics laid the foundation to one day run for office himself.  After winning State Representative in 2016, his love for serving has grown, and now he hopes to serve all Americans as a United States Senator from Mississippi.  Politics can be an unforgiving, arduous task, that is often polarizing when mixed beliefs and ideologies clash.  In order to be effective, one must remember they are in voted to serve the people, not to serve themselves or personal interest groups.
Mr. Eubanks is nothing other than authentic and genuine.  Our conversation describes the influences that helped to mold him into the person he is today, and I am certain that you would agree, he has his heart and priorities in the right place.  Regardless of who you support, the one thing Mr. Eubanks encourages all to do is vote!

“We can do small things with great love.” ~ Mother Teresa

It is no secret life can be unfair and very difficult.  If you are fortunate enough to come from a stable loving family you are still not immune to the harsh realities of life.  However, for some kids, they are forced to grow up quick and many times they find themselves in very unfavorable situations from a lifetime of neglect and lack of mentorship.
This week my guest shares her story of how she followed her first love of journalism which ultimately led to finding her purpose in life.  Mrs. Anna discovered how her love of communication and her devotion to her faith could be used in a big way with underprivileged youth.
The Palmer Home provides a stable life, with structure and mentorship that is fueled with love, compassion, and a Christ based approach.  Showing children that they matter and that they are capable is the best way to influence positive outcomes.  Fostering is needed all around the world and my hope is that this episode will spark a fire in others to get involved and help where they can.
If you want to learn more you can contact the Palmer Home at http://www.palmerhome.org or call 662-449-2400.

“I will turn my talents towards humankind’s business.”  This was the quote given to me by this week’s guest.  Mr. Michael McGill reached out to via FB to see if I would be interested in hearing why he was running for Congress.  Full disclosure, I am not a platform that desires to highlight self-serving ventures.  That said, it only took a 10 minute phone call to see that Mr. McGill had very little interest in being a self-promoter or self-serving, and he had actually spent a lifetime serving others. This opportunity was just his next most logical step to continue that trend.
Mr. McGill shares with my listeners how his hardworking parents gave him the structure needed to tackle hard circumstances.  Being born with a club foot could have left him feeling sorry for himself and he could have settled into a lifetime of being a victim of circumstance.  Instead, he just saw this as one more thing he would face head on and prove to others, as well as himself, that anything can be possible when you put your heart and soul into the task at hand.
While in the military serving his country he found yet again another way to give back.  Seeing the need for basic life supplies Mr. McGill took it upon himself to take action and started a nonprofit to meet the needs of those less fortunate.  His organization is called, School of Athens, children’s charity.  To put it simply, Mr. McGill is not one to sit around and complain, he is a man of action and I know that you will find his story and his life to be very inspirational.
You can learn more about his nonprofit at, MMcGill@HelpSchoolOfAthens.com or http://HelpSchoolOfAthens.com   and you can learn more about his candidacy at Michael.McGill@StayAmerican.org

Life happens fast and time passes quickly, this is why we need to be reminded that our life transitions from one moment to the next, just like seasons.
When things aren’t going the way we would have hoped and we can’t seem to find the right choice, no matter what we do, we just need to take a breath.  The best way to approach life is to embrace the difficult moments.  It is in those moments that we are building a stronger foundation for the future.
Roller coasters go up and down and where you find a valley, you will soon see the top of the mountain.  Balance your response to a situation and trust that when you keep moving forward you will see better times ahead.  The one thing we can all agree on is, your situation will never get better if you quit.  You must keep going, never give up.  You are worth it, and never forget that!

I feel like it is safe to say, many of us have someone we can point to in our lives that has had a huge impact on the person we develop into. In fact, most of us may have several people. It is not lost on me the importance of doing the right thing, even when it is the most difficult thing to do.

This week’s guest is a glowing example of how a balanced approach to issues can be the most productive way to solve a problem. Mrs. Merry Mattix is a RN/Paramedic and she happens to be the Southwest Tennessee Community College EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Program Director, the Allied Health Interim Dean and oh yeah…My boss.

When I was thinking about how I could wrap up my series on education the thought occurred to me, why not bring in one of the pioneers of education in the world of EMS. Mrs. Mattix shares with my listeners how she found herself going from Paramedic to RN and eventually to Director, and all along the way it was her love and passion of helping others that inspired her to stay in the profession for over 30 years and still counting.

Her ability to manage different personalities and at the same time put her personal desires on hold while pursuing the best possible outcomes for the program has been awe inspiring. I am beyond thankful for the mentorship and influence that I’ve received while teaching under her direction and I know that her legacy will last on for many generations to come.
