Three Strikes, You’re Out of Here – My Guest, Mr. Andy Fletcher is a 25 Year MLB umpire veteran.
“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it, time will pass anyway.”
~ E. Nightingale
It is probably fair to say that most kids grow up dreaming of being the player that scores the game winning touchdown or hitting the walk off homerun. However this week’s guest was drawn to the officiating side of sports. Mr. Andy Fletcher grew up playing multiple sports, but it was the influence of his father that grew his love for officiating.
Andy discusses how he would go to dozens of games and see his father umping baseball or refereeing football and basketball and how this gave him the itch to do the same. It was his senior year in high school that he officially got his first chance to ump a professional game. At the young age of 17 he was invited to ump 3rd base at a Memphis Chicks game (the former double A team for the one time Montréal Expos.) Andy describes how he was incredibly nervous but at the same time excited to get such a unique experience at such a young age.
Andy let his love of officiating grow and over the years he continued to ump and ref across all three major sports until he eventually settled on baseball. An interesting fact Andy shared was that he really didn’t have a favorite team and really just enjoyed calling the game. Andy continued to grind over 10 years in the minors before finally getting his call to big leagues one afternoon while standing in a mall. He recalls how he was suddenly overcome with emotion and his lifelong dream of being a big league ump was incredibly coming true.
Since that day, nearly 25 years ago, Andy has went on to build quite the resume of games. He has umped in 2 World Baseball Classics, 2 All-Star games, 4 Wild Card Series, 3 Division Series, 1 League Championship Series and as of 2024 he can add the 5 game World Series between the Dodgers and the Yankees. Andy’s story of hard work and climb to success is a true testament of what can be possible when you believe in yourself and give it everything you’ve got.

Strength Through the Storm – Coach Camp shares his perspective on why we must face storms.
“On the other side of a storm is the strength that comes from having navigated through it.”
This week’s episode was inspired through my guests that I’ve been so blessed to have on my show. I feel like most of us would agree that hard times can come in many shapes and sizes and where one thing might be devastating for one person, that same thing may not be difficult to navigate for someone else.
It was actually a friend that once explained to me that no issue should be taken lightly and to always remember that life is not a competition. The important thing is to be honest with ourselves first, but then allow ourselves to be vulnerable enough to admit when we are having a problem and be brave enough to ask for help.
While these concepts may seem simple enough to understand, the truth is they can be very difficult to admit. This is why I find myself being inspired every week by my guests that selflessly allow their difficult times to be shared with the world and ultimately connect with my audience in the hopes that they can find inspiration and healing through their stories.
Using those concepts, I took this week to reflect on my personal journey and hopefully this week’s message will hit home for someone out there struggling through a tough time. The important thing to remember is that this moment in time will pass and when you come out on the other side you will be stronger than before and when you use your testimony you will infuse hope in others that they too will make it through. That, my friends, is the way you find purpose and meaning when life tries to beat you down.

Addiction is a Thief – My Guests, Mr. Daniel Bell and his mother Bunny Lee - PART 2
“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed and very dear.”
I’ve heard it said, “Fentanyl is the chemical cancer that is killing our society.” Much like cancer, most of us know someone that has either struggled with addiction or even passed away from an overdose. I personally have had several friends and family members die from overdosing on drugs.
The blunt truth about addiction is that it is an equal opportunity employer. It doesn’t matter who you are, who you know, what background you come from, how rich or how poor you are; anyone can become addicted to something and usually it happens when you least expect it.
Most addicts didn’t wake up one day and say, “hey, I think I’m going to pick up a habit that will completely destroy my life and everyone’s life around me.” I think it’s safe to say that a lot of times people are just curious about it and they are looking for something to take away the pain, both physical and mental.
Regardless of why a person decides to try a drug, the point remains that addiction will take everything from you and for this week’s guest that sentiment is literal. My guests Daniel and his mother Bunny share the unbelievable story of how Daniel became an addict 22 years ago and it took losing 19 friends, his fiancé, his brother and dying temporarily before being brought back to finally get clean. You have to hear how he is using his incredible loss to now be a positive voice for others that recovery can happen and staying clean can become your reality.

Going My Way – My Guest, Retired Memphis Firefighter, Mr. Lynn Miller.
“There are all these moments you think you won’t survive, and then you survive.”
In 1971, the world was very different than the one we know today. I know that hitchhiking is very taboo in today’s world, but back in the early 70’s hitchhiking was a common way of traveling across America.
My guest this week, Mr. Lynn Miller had just finished Air Force tech school in Wichita Falls, Texas, and had started his long journey from Texas to Tennessee via his thumb out. Originally, he had planned to fly back home but after someone broke into his locker at tech school and stole all of his money he decided to just hitchhike home. Wanting to surprise his family on his return he decided to keep his trip home a secret.
Most of us can admit that at the age of 19 we often don’t make the best of decisions. In this case, Lynn could get some grace from the fact that hitchhiking was an accepted form of travel during that time. Starting out early in the morning he started his long, arduous trip of over 1000 miles. He shares how the majority of his trip was mostly uneventful chipping away at the distance little by little until he found himself less than 22 miles from his house when things took an incredible turn.
At approximately a day and a half into his trip it was about 2am when he found himself being kidnapped by 4 men and brought to a cabin in the Appalachian Mountains. His daring escape will leave you on the edge of your seat. You do not want to miss this week’s incredible story of survival and how he has used his second chance at life to have a huge impact for others.

A City for the Family – My Guest, Mr. Ken Adams, Mayor of Olive Branch, MS.
“Real leadership is about transforming limitations into possibilities.”
~ R. Sharma
The question is often asked, are leaders born or are leaders made? Most people would say it can be either. However, I would argue it simply comes down to making a decision. Every day we are faced with making choices and those choices will mold the people that we will become. In my opinion, becoming a leader is no different.
This week’s guest was given a great foundation in leadership from his early beginnings when he started working at Fed Ex in security. During those years he also worked as a civil/criminal court judge.
Finally, after 38 years with Fed Ex and 25 years as a judge, he decided to try his hand in politics. Mr. Adams had been a lifelong resident of DeSoto County and he felt a calling to serve the people. So he made the decision to retire as a judge and go all in on running for mayor of Olive Branch. Thus his logo, “All in Ken”. He was elected to office in 2021 and has since been blazing a trail to make Olive Branch one of the best cities to live in in Mississippi.
Tune in to hear about all of the improvements that have come to Olive Branch since he entered office and what is planned for the future as Mayor Adams looks to grow the city and expand its resources.
