Hope Inspires Healing – My Guest, Matthew and Monica Spellicy from Camden, New York.
“Strength and growth only come through continuous effort and struggle.” ~ N. Hill
Matthew is an IT cyber security engineer and former Army veteran and Monica is a teaching assistant. While their occupations are much needed and both provide selfless sacrifice, it was their desire to help others during their own struggles that inspired me. Our paths crossed when Matt reached out to me after coming across my podcast and he shared with me some of his personal battles he had been facing. Even though we had never met I immediately could tell Matt was a genuine person that was just needing to talk to someone he felt like could relate to him.
As you will hear, Matthew battled through the trenches of alcoholism and Monica endured a tumultuous relationship before they came into one another’s lives. Ironically, it was their broken past that has given them the strength to face each day with a positive attitude and lead them down a path of helping other’s with their testimony of hardships and podcast platform called, “The Matt and Monica Podcast.”
On their podcast, they host guests that have battled mental health issues, bullying, and addiction, as well as, veterans, comedians, and politicians. Finding strength through others is a recipe that resonates with most people. Just knowing that someone else has been through a difficult time and come out the other side still standing gives people hope.
If you have listened to any of my previous podcast then you have probably heard me say time and time again that the “with” in Motivate with Coach Camp is very intentional. Building a community of positive minded people that have a true desire to help others is how WE can be a part of healing other’s.
I have no doubt that you will feel their story and I would like to encourage you to subscribe to their YouTube channel and follow their podcast. These two are going to do some big things in this world!

Quips, College Speeches, and Positive Voices | Cannonballing Life Series
In this episode of Cannonballing Life, Derrick and Coach Camp dive into the highs and lows of online interactions. Coach introduces his new Facebook group, Positive Voices, and the guys vent about the frustrations of dealing with negative comments on social media. The duo also explores the concept of "resting B-face" and how perception can shape reality. Derrick manages to slide a clever quip past Coach, and Coach shares some hilarious tales from his college days, including a few memorable (and maybe not-so-smooth) speeches. It's an episode full of laughs, reflection, and a sprinkle of wisdom!

If you know anyone that has ever tried to run their own business then you know that it requires a lot of hard work and sacrifice. Johnny explains how he did the best he could until he graduated high school but knew if he ever wanted to build a life of his own he needed to go out into the world and carve his own path. It was at that time that his brothers started to go down the wrong path.
Tune in to hear how he made some tough decisions to build his career and chase his dream of owning and operating his restaurant and how he had to do this while enduring the struggles of both his younger brothers getting addicted to drugs. Music and Community – My Guest, Lifelong musician Mr. Manny Zepada.
“Music can change the world because it can change people.” ~ Bono
I am sure that most of us can relate to having something that captivated us at a very early age and for some that early passion never leaves them. My guest this week, Mr. Manny Zepada, found himself being drawn to music at the young age of 5 when he wandered into a music store in the Staten Island mall. His first love was the piano and his father must have recognized that love because his father bought a piano that day and Manny never looked back.
Manny shares how his family was super supportive and at the age of 15 he was frequenting the local clubs and bars with his parents so he could play in a band. By the time he had graduated high school, he was a seasoned player and took the leap of faith to actually start his own band.
Manny spent the next several decades playing music and touring the country until at the age of 48 he found himself needing to settle down because he had joined the amazing world of fatherhood. No longer wanting to tour, so that he could be closer to his two daughters, Manny knew he had to figure something out to continue his love for music.
Manny took a huge leap of faith once more and decided to start his own music school in the quaint town of Hernando, MS. Manny had learned the value of music and his girls helped him to see the value of pouring that love into others. Manny hopes to be a staple in the community where people can come together and make memories and maybe even develop a lifelong love for music. Three Strikes, You’re Out of Here – My Guest, Mr. Andy Fletcher is a 25 Year MLB umpire veteran.
“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it, time will pass anyway.”
~ E. Nightingale
It is probably fair to say that most kids grow up dreaming of being the player that scores the game winning touchdown or hitting the walk off homerun. However this week’s guest was drawn to the officiating side of sports. Mr. Andy Fletcher grew up playing multiple sports, but it was the influence of his father that grew his love for officiating.
Andy discusses how he would go to dozens of games and see his father umping baseball or refereeing football and basketball and how this gave him the itch to do the same. It was his senior year in high school that he officially got his first chance to ump a professional game. At the young age of 17 he was invited to ump 3rd base at a Memphis Chicks game (the former double A team for the one time Montréal Expos.) Andy describes how he was incredibly nervous but at the same time excited to get such a unique experience at such a young age.
Andy let his love of officiating grow and over the years he continued to ump and ref across all three major sports until he eventually settled on baseball. An interesting fact Andy shared was that he really didn’t have a favorite team and really just enjoyed calling the game. Andy continued to grind over 10 years in the minors before finally getting his call to big leagues one afternoon while standing in a mall. He recalls how he was suddenly overcome with emotion and his lifelong dream of being a big league ump was incredibly coming true.
Since that day, nearly 25 years ago, Andy has went on to build quite the resume of games. He has umped in 2 World Baseball Classics, 2 All-Star games, 4 Wild Card Series, 3 Division Series, 1 League Championship Series and as of 2024 he can add the 5 game World Series between the Dodgers and the Yankees. Andy’s story of hard work and climb to success is a true testament of what can be possible when you believe in yourself and give it everything you’ve got.

Strength Through the Storm – Coach Camp shares his perspective on why we must face storms.
“On the other side of a storm is the strength that comes from having navigated through it.”
This week’s episode was inspired through my guests that I’ve been so blessed to have on my show. I feel like most of us would agree that hard times can come in many shapes and sizes and where one thing might be devastating for one person, that same thing may not be difficult to navigate for someone else.
It was actually a friend that once explained to me that no issue should be taken lightly and to always remember that life is not a competition. The important thing is to be honest with ourselves first, but then allow ourselves to be vulnerable enough to admit when we are having a problem and be brave enough to ask for help.
While these concepts may seem simple enough to understand, the truth is they can be very difficult to admit. This is why I find myself being inspired every week by my guests that selflessly allow their difficult times to be shared with the world and ultimately connect with my audience in the hopes that they can find inspiration and healing through their stories.
Using those concepts, I took this week to reflect on my personal journey and hopefully this week’s message will hit home for someone out there struggling through a tough time. The important thing to remember is that this moment in time will pass and when you come out on the other side you will be stronger than before and when you use your testimony you will infuse hope in others that they too will make it through. That, my friends, is the way you find purpose and meaning when life tries to beat you down.
