From Hitting Jacks to Saving Lives – My Guest, Mr. Brandon Montgomery, played triple A ball for the Los Angeles Dodgers and now saves lives on the Collierville fire department.

My guest this week found his true passion in life at the very early age of 8.  Having an older brother, Brandon was introduced to the game of baseball basically by the time he was able to walk.  Brandon explains how introducing something to someone and being good at something is no substitution for having a passion for something.  However, when you can combine a natural ability to your passion, magic can happen.  

It was his insatiable desire to play the game that gave him the needed edge to excel through the ranks and quickly find himself playing pro ball in rookie league before eventually ascending to double A ball.  During our conversation we cover the good, the bad and the ugly of youth sports as well as the dedication needed to truly be the best of the best.

Brandon gives credit to his older brother for having a huge influence on what he believed possible for himself.  Brandon explains how COVID derailed his chances for further advancement after getting a taste of triple A and he had a hard decision to make about his future.  Seeing his older brother pursue the path of  firefighting he decided he would give that career a look.  It was there that our paths crossed and now he is serving as a firefighter for Collierville, TN.  Brandon’s story is both relatable and inspiring and his love for baseball hasn’t left him as he is now a coach and trainer at Beast Athletics in Collierville.
